The A*STAR Capabilities for Automotive Research (A*CAR) Consortium launched on 30 September
2008 with the partnership of Bosch, Dou Yee and Infineon,
is an A*STAR initiative to bring together automotive OEMs, suppliers
and the R&D community to work hand in hand in addressing key
research areas in automotive technology.
Research and development efforts of leading automakers have been
extensive due to the rapid pace of the automotive industry and
increasing demand from consumers for higher quality, comfort and
safety, yet without increase in price. To meet rising
expectations of customers in the automotive sector, the industry will
need to offer technical innovations that will make the vehicles safer
and more efficient. An individual company embarking on R&D to
address these demands single-handedly faces huge challenges. Through
partnership, companies will be able to reduce research and development
costs and risks in introducing innovative technologies. Cooperation
with business partners, suppliers and the research community will play
a critical role in channelling new features into the model stream in
the shortest time possible.
The consortium draws on the collective expertise from the Science and
Engineering Research Council's (SERC's) seven research institutes; Data
Storage Institute (DSI), Institute of Chemical Engineering Sciences
(ICES), Institute of High Performance Computing (IHPC), Institute for
Infocomm Research (I2R), Institute of Materials Research and
Engineering (IMRE), Institute of Microelectronics (IME) and Singapore
Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech). |
